The Graph Foundation team behind the decentralized data indexing protocol started to test the service on the NEAR Protocol network.

“The Graph has expanded beyond Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) thanks to NEAR Protocol support,” the developers said.

Thus, according to them, for the first time, the service works on a network incompatible with the Ethereum blockchain.

Continuing to pave the way for a multi-chain future

Developers use The Graph to obtain data like prices and user information. In addition, the protocol is now operational on 25 different blockchain networks. NEAR is the latest chain to join The Graph’s hosted service, which is continuing to pave the way for a multi-chain future.

Representatives of NEAR Protocol noted that the integration will allow building subgraphs on the network. This will enable the web3 infrastructure to “support even more decentralized applications”. Moreover, the integration is the first end-to-end integration of the new core contributors formerly proprietary (now open-source) technology. Also, it uses StreamingFast’s Firehose interface, which is adaptable to any blockchain.

Tegan Kline, Co-Founder and Business Lead at Edge & Node, working on The Graph said in a CoinDesk comment that the Graph Foundation will continue to offer grants to expand the service.

Early-stage ecosystem building blocks

In December 2020, the creators of The Graph announced the launch of a decentralized data indexing protocol in the main Ethereum network. Three major exchanges announced the listing of the native project token (GRT). They compared their development to the Internet without Google.

Recall that previously, NEAR Protocol established an $800 million fund to finance developers and individual projects in the ecosystem in the form of grants.

Near co-founder, Illia Polosukhin told that the program has already distributed $45 million this year. With a special focus on early-stage ecosystem building blocks. Therefore, the NEAR token reacted by rising to a new historical high above $12.
