Swiss public exchange lists two new carbon-neutral crypto ETPs

On the Six Swiss Exchange, two new carbon-neutral cryptocurrency exchange-traded products (ETPs) have been created, bringing the total number of crypto ETPs to 155.

Helveteq, the third crypto ETP issuer to join SIX in 2022, has announced the launch of two new crypto exchange-traded products (ETPs), Bitcoin (Bitcoin Zero / BTCO2) and Ethereum (Ether Zero / ETH2O).

An ETP is a financial derivative that trades on assets like commodities, currencies, stock prices, or interest rates. The BTCO2 and ETH2O ETPs are designed to provide investors with exposure to the world’s two most valued cryptocurrencies while also reducing their carbon footprints. They are part of Helveteq’s “crypto goes carbon neutral” campaign, which is being run in collaboration with the University of Zurich’s Swiss fintech innovation lab.

While commenting on the recent listing, Christian Katz, CEO of Helveteq, stressed the need of providing carbon-neutral crypto ETPs. He continued:

“Awareness of the relationship between the environment and the blockchain economy is rapidly growing, and we must all work together to create long-term solutions.” That is why Helveteq supports and collaborates with the University of Zurich in this field, using the results of which we offset the carbon footprint of our Zero ETP family.”

Plethora of crypto ETPs have been developed

Since the world’s first crypto ETP debuted on the Swiss SIX Exchange in December 2018, a plethora of crypto ETPs have been developed. As the platform’s debut ETP, the Amun Crypto Basket ETP (HODL) was launched in 2018. It monitors five main cryptocurrencies.

SIX started BTCetc Bitcoin ETP (BTCE) trading on January 13, giving investors a new method to participate in the world’s most valuable cryptocurrency. 240 cryptocurrency-based products are available through the site. The trade volume for crypto-related products on the platform increased 673% in 2021, according to the release.
